Brooke B. Murphy

Brooke Bradley Murphy focuses her practice on civil litigation, including medical malpractice defense, commercial and insurance defense, class action litigation, and products liability litigation. She has served as lead counsel in a number of litigated cases ranging from medical malpractice matters to commercial contract disputes and tried cases in both state and federal courts. Brooke instills confidence in her clients through her thoughtful, strategic approach to cases, her dynamic and persuasive courtroom presence, and her finely tuned sense of judgment on the most challenging legal decisions.  

Brooke is a well-respected member of the legal profession. She has been selected by her peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers of America in the fields of Products Liability Litigation and Commercial Litigation every year since 2009. She has been selected as Best Lawyers "Lawyer of the Year" for Products Liability Litigation - Defendants on three separate occasions and has been named as a Mountain States Super Lawyer or Rising Star yearly since 2008. Brooke has also been recognized as one of the "Top 50 Women" lawyers in the Mountain States every year since 2018. 

Brooke is a proud member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), the International Society of Barristers (ISOB), and the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). She is a Senior Fellow, Litigation Counsel of America and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Brooke is also a member of the Trial Law Institute, the Diversity Law Institute, the Defense Research Institute, the Montana Defense Trial Lawyers Association, and her state and local bar associations. Brooke enjoys an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell, indicating the highest level of professional excellence.  

Brooke obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Montana School of Law in 2000 and is admitted to practice before all Montana state courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Following law school, Brooke joined an established litigation defense firm in Billings, Montana, and became a shareholder in January of 2006. In 2018 she founded MurphyMyers PLLC with Jesse Myers, focusing her talents on providing personal, practical, and cost-effective representation to her diverse clientele.  

Brooke has a deep sense of community. She currently serves on the Board of Visitors for the Alexander Blewett IIII School of Law at the University of Montana and served for many years and is a past president of the Alberta Bair Theater Board of Advisors. Brooke is married to Gavin Murphy, and together they have three incredible children. When not in the office, Brooke enjoys spending time with her family and teaching and playing Mahjong.

Jesse Myers

Throughout his career Jesse has focused primarily on litigating and trying cases. He has successfully represented clients across a wide variety of matters, including personal injury, wrongful death, insurance coverage and extra-contractual claims. His practice also includes product liability litigation, business and commercial disputes, professional malpractice and employment matters, title and property claims, estate and probate proceedings, as well as construction, energy and agricultural related issues. Though generally hired to assist in defense, Jesse has obtained multi-million dollar recoveries for plaintiffs. 

Jesse graduated from the University of Montana School of Law and received his LL.M. from the University of Washington. Following law school, Jesse worked for the Office of the State Public Defender where he defended and tried numerous cases involving allegations ranging from DUI to deliberate homicide. In 2011, he transitioned to a civil insurance defense practice before representing a national transportation company on an array of claims and lawsuits, including some of the biggest litigation exposures in Montana. Jesse founded MurphyMyers PLLC with Brooke Murphy in 2018 to provide full service, first-class legal services spanning the spectrum of litigation and related areas. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and admitted to practice before all Montana state courts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana.

From an early age, Jesse learned success isn’t given — it’s earned. He carries that lesson into every case and is constantly pushing himself and his team to fight harder, prepare better, and never back down. Jesse’s reputation as a dedicated and successful lawyer has been hard won through litigation, trials, and appeals against some of the largest law firms in the United States. It has been proven time and again during long hours of tireless work on behalf of his clients in difficult and complex cases. And it is demonstrated by the victories he has obtained in many kinds of cases, in many unique ways, and in many different settings.

Jesse is committed to serving the public good. He is the past president of the board of directors for the Billings District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and continues to advocate for its mission of providing assistance and hope to society’s neediest without discrimination. Jesse and his family are also long-time supporters of Eagle Mount, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities through recreation and opportunities to embrace life without limits. Through his pro bono efforts, Jesse has positively touched the lives of countless individuals and organizations who cannot afford legal counsel. Ben Sather

Ben Sather has been practicing law in Billings and throughout Montana, since 2007, representing businesses and individuals in a diverse mix of civil litigation including: insurance, business, construction, and real property litigation as well as labor and employment law. Ben obtained his Juris Doctorate from the University of Montana School of Law and is admitted to practice before all Montana state courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Ben worked for the law firm of Christensen Fulton & Filz, PLLC, from 2007 to 2013. From 2013 to 2023, Ben was the owner of Sather Law, PLLC. While running Sather Law, PLLC, Ben represented both individuals in insurance claims along with insurance companies and their insureds. In 2023, Ben joined MurphyMyers PLLC to focus on all stages of civil litigation, including commercial and insurance defense.

Ben was born and raised in Havre, Montana. After graduating from Havre High, Ben attended the University of Montana, graduating with a degree in business administration. Ben stayed in Missoula, attending law school at the University of Montana.

While in law school, Ben served as a legal clerk for the United States Senate Finance Committee. He also worked as an intern for the Missoula County Attorney as a prosecuting attorney for two years. While there, Ben prosecuted a wide variety of criminal charges in Missoula County, trying many cases to juries and judges. During Ben's third year of law school, Ben was selected as a clinical intern for United States Federal Magistrate Leif Erickson.

Upon completion of his legal studies, Ben served as a law clerk for the Montana Supreme Court, working with Justices James Nelson, Jim Rice, and W. William Leaphart. Ben worked closely with the justices of the Court and other law clerks, developing superior legal research and writing skills while learning the intricacies of appellate practice in Montana.

Ben maintains close ties to his hometown of Havre and the Montana Hi-Line. Ben is a current board member of the Havre Public Schools Education Foundation, which focuses on educational and academic opportunities for the students of Havre Public Schools. Ben is a former member of the Board of Trustees for the State Bar of Montana. He was elected to serve in this position by the attorneys of Yellowstone County and the surrounding areas. Ben is a past President of the Yellowstone Area Bar Association and Director of the Board of Directors for the Yellowstone Area Bar Association.

Ben has two daughters — Evey and Nora. Together, they enjoy traveling, music and spending time with their dog Tommy.

Marilyn Harris

Marilyn Harris is a key member of MurphyMyers, having joined the firm first as an administrative assistant only to be quickly promoted to paralegal. Marilyn now wears multiple hats, serving as the firm’s Office Manager in addition to her paralegal duties. She earned her paralegal certification in 2020 and supports the firm’s civil litigation practice. Marilyn’s work includes construction defect litigation, medical malpractice defense, general insurance matters, and plaintiff’s personal injury. Marilyn works closely with the firm’s attorneys throughout all stages of litigation, from case development through resolution. Her responsibilities include client communications, drafting and filing pleadings, and managing discovery. Known for her attention to detail and organization, Marilyn plays a key role in coordinating complex caseloads and ensuring matters move efficiently. In her dual role, Marilyn is committed to providing responsive, client-focused service and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the firm. She takes pride in being a reliable point of contact for clients and a consistent resource for attorneys. Outside the office, Marilyn enjoys spending time with her son and dogs and following her favorite sports teams.

Sarah Myhre

Sarah Myhre earned her paralegal certificate from Montana State University-Billings in 2019 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 2021. She is a member of the National Association of Legal Assistants and a Notary Public for the State of Montana. Sarah is a value-driven paralegal and her skills include efficiently navigating the management of client deadlines, communication among parties, analyzing medical records and bills, document filings in federal and state courts, and all aspects of the discovery process. Sarah’s attention to detail and ability to multitask the unique facets of civil litigation are fundamental qualities that allow her to handle complex legal cases and support the firm’s clients during their most challenging times. Alexa Shiffer

Alexa Shiffer is a dedicated paralegal with 14 years of experience, including a decade specializing in trusts and estates and several years focusing on personal injury law. Her interest in the legal field began with a desire to help people through life’s most important—and often challenging—moments. Alexa earned her Paralegal Certificate from Midwest Paralegal Studies in 2013, has been a member of the State Bar of Montana’s Paralegal Section since 2023, and a Notary Public in the State of Montana. She excels at meeting and greeting all who visit or call our office as well as facilitating productive working relationships with members of our firm and clients, clerks of court, opposing counsel, insurance adjusters, vendors, expert witnesses and those in need of legal representation. Alexa is not only a conscientious and attentive professional, her warm and empathetic nature bring a sense of calm to the firm’s clientele during challenging legal cases.    

Originally from Oregon, Alexa moved to Montana to attend Montana State University-Billings and stayed for the strong sense of community, rewarding career, and life she built here. It is also where she met her husband, who is a proud member of the Air Force. Outside of work, Alexa enjoys spending time with her family, attending concerts, reading, and exploring her many hobbies.
